Objectives

The Grand Valley River Corridor Initiative (GVRCI) works to:

  • Engage stakeholders to identify shared values, opportunities, and challenges.

  • Develop strategies to address common goals and needs for the river corridor.

  • Foster collaboration through a shared platform and coordinated planning.

  • Provide planning tools, including fluvial hazard zone mapping.

  • Promote community education and connection to the river.

CURRENT PROJECTS

  • In coordination with the Upper Colorado Endangered Fish Recovery Program, inform and identify opportunities for restoration, conservation, and river dynamism by evaluating river health metrics in riparian and floodplain zones.

  • Assess river stakeholder flow preferences and experiences.

  • Support the creation of an inter-jurisdictional River Corridor master planning framework.

  • Coordinate with related initiatives (e.g., water quality and quantity) that support the river corridor vision.

  • Develop a long-term institutional and financial framework for GVRCI’s work.

  • Develop a public-facing presence for GVRCI and conduct community outreach to build awareness.
