ABOUT GVRCI

The Grand Valley River Corridor Initiative (GVRCI) is a collaborative, community-driven effort dedicated to supporting and maintaining a healthy river corridor that meets the diverse needs, uses, and values of our region — now and for generations to come.

Extending from De Beque to the Utah border, and along the Gunnison River from Bridgeport to its meeting with the Colorado River, this vital resource provides habitat for fish and wildlife, water for agriculture, opportunities for recreation, and a foundation for the region’s economy and culture.

our vision

The communities of the Grand Valley are committed to a data-driven approach to steward a resilient, vibrant, and healthy river corridor that supports agriculture, habitat and wildlife, recreation, economic growth, and sustainable development benefiting today’s and future generations.

our approach

Formed in 2020, the Grand Valley River Corridor Initiative (GVRCI) fosters coordination, planning, and collaboration among diverse stakeholders to protect and enhance the corridor’s many values.

Through workshops, discussions, and data-driven strategies, GVRCI identifies shared priorities and implements solutions that balance conservation with responsible growth.

GVRCI supports a river corridor that works for all — providing community access, supporting agriculture and tourism, sustaining the environment, promoting safe development, and protecting public health.
